Technical malfunctions in the fuel system of the Nauka module, which were identified back in 2013, led to extremely unpleasant consequences. Recall, then in the tanks of the apparatus found metal shavings, after which the compartment was sent for revision.

And so, on the eve it became known that it was not possible to get rid of blockages in standard fuel tanks. In this regard, it was decided to replace them with those produced in the NGO named after Lavochkina. However, everything would be fine if it were not for the characteristics of the new tanks, which significantly reduce the functionality of the module.

It turns out that the fuel tanks that will be installed instead of the previous ones are not designed for repeated operation. Thus, the MLM Nauka, launched into the low Earth orbit by the Proton rocket, will independently get and dock with the International Space Station, after which its tanks can no longer be refueled.

As a result, the domestic apparatus, which surpasses European Columbus and Japanese Kibo in technical specifications, nevertheless, will not be able to become the basic module of the Russian National Orbital Station.

Earlier we reported that Dmitry Rogozin announced the tests MLM "Science". As for the launch of the ship, it is scheduled for 2020.
