The fate of the new Science module, which will be intended for the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS), became known. At a special meeting in Korolyov (Moscow Region) with the participation of general designers, a decision was made, which was announced on his page on the social network "Twitter" by the general director of "Roskosmos" Dmitry Rogozin.

According to him, in August of this year, the multifunctional laboratory module “Science” will leave the Khrunichev Center. He will be transferred to the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia. Preflight tests will be conducted there.

The multifunctional laboratory module (MLM) Nauka will leave the department of the Khrunichev Center in August this year and will be transported to RSC Energia for pre-flight tests. This decision was made today at a meeting in Korolev with the participation of general designers. MLM work is getting better

- wrote Rogozin.

It should be noted that the creation of the “Science” module started back in 1995. At first it was planned that it would be a ground backup of the ISS Zarya module. However, in 2004 it was decided to make it a full-fledged flight module. It was planned that its launch will be carried out in 2007, but it was not possible to complete the work by this date.

In 2013, Nauka was transferred by the manufacturer, the Khrunichev Center, to the Energia rocket and space corporation. There, metal shavings were found in his fuel lines. Experts said that this could lead to problems for the propulsion system of the entire ISS.

The module was returned to the manufacturer, that is, the Khrunichev Center. Three options for his future destiny after resolving the problems were considered - the module could either remain at the Center, or go to RSC Energia, or to Baikonur.
