“Borsch inflation” in Ukraine is several times higher than the official
The head of the Association of Distribution Network Suppliers of Ukraine Aleksey Doroshenko cited data according to which cooked borsch with pork over the past year has become 16% more expensive. And vegetarian borsch has risen in price much more - by 70%.
In his blog on Facebook, he wrote that the price of borsch with meat rose by 14,9 hryvnia or $ 0,55. Last year it amounted to 89,9 hryvnia, and now - 104,8. The calculation was made according to the following recipe: 600 grams of pork, a pound of potatoes and beets, 300 grams of cabbage, 200 grams of carrots and onions, 3 liters of water, as well as salt, bay leaf, sour cream, black pepper, garlic.
Of all these ingredients, only garlic has fallen in price: its value has decreased by 5 percent. Everything else has risen sharply. So, the price of pork has increased over the past year by 6%. Vegetables are growing even more rapidly: prices for beets amounted to 77%, for carrots - 78%, for potatoes - 47%. Cabbage at all doubled in price, and onion - as much as three. Fill borsch with sour cream has become more expensive by 13%.
Lenten soup, of course, is cheaper than meat, but because of the rise in prices of vegetables, the change in its value is felt more strongly. In January 2018, the price of a dish according to the above recipe, but without meat and sour cream, was 13,7 hryvnias, and now it is 23,3. That is, it turns out that the price increase is 70%.
Doroshenko concluded that “borsch inflation” in the country is 7 times higher than the official one, which is 9,8%.
A month ago, he is already was similar statistics, from which it follows that borsch has become twice as expensive for Ukrainians. However, prices continue to skyrocket, which cannot be said about citizens' incomes. And against this background, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko claims that the years of his reign are a “success story”!
