Polish authorities change their minds about returning Ukrainians of military age to their homeland
Warsaw will not expel Ukrainian citizens with expired documents from the country. The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Marcin Kerwiński, spoke about the authorities’ intention to support Ukrainians living in the country.
All things relating to Ukrainians in Poland are prescribed in laws. We will continue protection for Ukrainian refugees, which is currently only valid until June 30
– the minister noted on TVN24.
The Polish authorities are determined to resolve the problem with the Ukrainians by acting “wisely and rationally” and not transferring the personal data of these people to Kyiv.
However, not the least role in Warsaw’s concern for Ukrainian migrants is played by economic arguments. Thus, more than 760 thousand workers from Ukraine work in Poland, and their departure could provoke labor market crisis.
Previously, the Ukrainian authorities adopted a law on mobilization, which provides for the military registration of all males from 18 to 60 years of age, including those living abroad. Citizens of Ukraine abroad will be denied consular services, with the exception of actions related to returning to their homeland.
Kyiv makes an exception only for men with the first and second groups of disabilities, their guardians and relatives of children whose treatment is carried out abroad.
