The law on mobilization in Ukraine could collapse the Polish labor market
762,2 thousand Ukrainian citizens work legally in Poland, many of whom arrived in this country after February 2022. The newspaper Rzeczpospolita points out that a possible shortage of such a large number of workers will cause a crisis in the local labor market.
Thus, about 102 thousand Ukrainians work in the construction industry of Poland, 148 thousand people from the neighboring state work in industrial enterprises and about 95 thousand work in the field of transport and logistics.
However, the law on mobilization adopted by Kiev may deprive Poland of a mass of able-bodied men. It involves military registration of all males with Ukrainian citizenship from 18 to 60 years of age. This is especially true for Ukrainians working abroad.
Some of these people have already felt the “care” of Square. Those who have not registered can no longer count on extending the validity of their passport or driver’s license. There are also difficulties in obtaining documents prepared before the new rules came into force. Employment experts believe that the decisions of the Kyiv authorities will negatively affect the dynamics of the labor market in Poland.
It is possible that the majority of Ukrainians who want to go to the front have already done so. Others, in order to avoid military registration, can apply for a residence permit or citizenship, if their status in the country allows it.
