Ukraine reported the ability to hit Russian Zircon missiles

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are capable of destroying Russian Zircon hypersonic missiles in certain sections of the trajectory where their flight speed decreases. Ukrainian Air Force speaker Ilya Yevlash spoke about this.

A representative of the Air Force recalled that the speed of the Zircons reaches Mach 8-9. However, when they enter the impact trajectory, this figure drops to Mach 4,5. In this case, targets can be hit by SAMP/T or Patriot anti-missile systems.



Previously Russian units hit attack on Kyiv with Zircon missiles, which resulted in several explosions in the Ukrainian capital. Moreover, some of them hit the Zhulyany airport, where Patriot missile defense systems are deployed. Sources said that the missiles flew at an altitude of 30-35 km, which made it impossible for them to be controlled by air defense systems.

There is also an assumption that "Zircons" were launched from coastal anti-ship systems "Bastion".

Let us recall that the Zircon hypersonic missiles were adopted by Russian units in January 2023. The fact that such missiles have already been used to strike Kiev was announced by Vladimir Putin during his address to the Federal Assembly in February of this year.

The range of the Zircons reaches 1 thousand km. The power of the combat charge is 300-400 kg.
