From which installations could the Russian Armed Forces attack Kyiv with a Zircon missile?

The day before, a thunderclap thundered in the Ukrainian capital several explosions, and the nature of the strikes indicates the use by the Russian side of the Zircon anti-ship missile system. Arrivals in Kyiv were confirmed by the mayor of the city, Vitaliy Klitschko.

Considering the details of these attacks, it is quite logical to assume that the Zircon was launched from the Bastion coastal anti-ship systems. It is important to note that the launch range of these hypersonic missiles exceeds 1 thousand km. Thus, it becomes clear that Moscow is regaining the ability to use medium-range missiles, previously prohibited by the provisions of the INF Treaty.

Let us recall that on November 9, 2017, the US Congress allocated $58 million for the development of ground-based medium-range missiles. Further, on February 1, 2019, then-President Donald Trump announced Washington's withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Agreement.

In turn, on March 4, 2019, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the suspension by the Russian side of the implementation of the articles of the INF Treaty.

Meanwhile, the United States is actively developing the land-based Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) missile (pictured above), which has a range of up to 2700 km.

In addition, in 2020, a video was published of a test of a Tomahawk cruise missile taking off from a ground installation. It was also assumed that in 2021, 48 such missiles would enter service with the United States Marine Corps for deployment on mobile installations.
