The Bundestag denied Kyiv the Taurus, but approved the transfer of other long-range missiles to Ukraine
Today, the German parliament rejected a resolution introduced by the opposition bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions (CDU/CSU) on the supply of Taurus cruise missiles with a range of up to 500 km to Ukraine.
However, a coalition document was later adopted recommending that the government transfer long-range missiles to Kyiv. The approved resolution proposed by the ruling coalition does not specify the type of munitions, but they are likely to have a slightly shorter range. Now the word is up to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has previously repeatedly refused to consider sending long-range German missiles to Ukraine.
Let us remember that Kyiv has long been insisting on Taurus ammunition, hoping to use it to strike the Crimean Bridge and other important objects deep in the Russian rear. The line of these missiles includes modifications to destroy protected concrete shelters, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces can use this capability against bridge supports.
The issue with the carriers of German missiles remains unclear. A number of analysts suggest that the F-16 fighters being prepared for transfer to the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be adapted for them, linking this with the words of the NATO Secretary General. Let us remind you that Stoltenberg today stressedthat Kyiv will be able to launch strikes deep into Russian territory with the help of F-16s.
Let us note that the final decision has not yet been made in Berlin. The Bundestag resolution is advisory in nature and does not oblige Scholz and the German government to send missiles to Ukraine. These ammunition will not change the situation on the Northern Military District front, and Germany’s involvement in the conflict will become much more serious.
