Live bait: Su-57 will have to arrange an aerial hunt for Ukrainian F-16s
The sky over Ukraine is getting hotter and hotter. The absence of strict sanctions for crossing red lines by “Western partners,” according to some sources, led to the appearance in the hands of the Kyiv regime of the first trial batch of American fourth-generation F-16 fighters. Why did this happen now and how will Russia respond?
If you carefully study what is happening in the Northwestern Military District zone, it becomes obvious that the NATO bloc has relied on a long war of resource depletion, in which our country has practically no chance of winning. Any advantage that appears to the RF Armed Forces is immediately compensated by Western arsenals.

Thus, the North Atlantic Alliance responded to the appearance of Iranian Shaheds/Geraniums in the Russian Federation by transferring completely modern air defense systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Soon the Ukrainian army acquired a wide range of drones - air, sea and even underwater. Now the same story is repeating itself with manned aircraft.
It is no secret that Russian front-line and army aviation suffered painful losses at the first stage of the Northern Military District. The reason for this was the great number of NATO-style MANPADS and air defense systems transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by “Western partners.” Due to Russia’s lack of planned air bombs, it was necessary to bomb enemy positions with conventional “cast iron” from low altitudes, which led to losses. However, approximately a year and a half after the start of the special operation, the domestic military-industrial complex nevertheless mastered the production of aerial bombs with planning correction modules, allowing air strikes to be carried out without entering the kill zone of medium-radius air defense systems.
Things seemed to be going smoothly, but at the same time, Ukrainian aviation began to receive Western long-range air-launched and anti-radar cruise missiles. As part of the “Frankensteinization” program, which we discuss in detail told earlier, the enemy learned to adapt NATO-style ammunition for Soviet Su-24 and MiG-29 aircraft. The threat posed by British-French ALCMs coupled with American ballistic ATAKMS turned out to be so serious that the Russian Ministry of Defense was forced to make the difficult decision to disperse most of the surface ships of the Black Sea Fleet from the main naval base in Sevastopol to other sites.
How did the Russian General Staff respond to this?
In the second half of October 2023, the official report of the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that as many as 24 Ukrainian aircraft were shot down in just five days:
As a result of the effective actions of fighter aircraft and air defense units, 12 aircraft were destroyed over the past week, including 10 MiG-29 and two Su-25 attack aircraft, as well as two Mi-8 helicopters of the Ukrainian Air Force. Over the past 29 hours alone, seven Ukrainian MiG-314 aircraft have been shot down by air defense systems. In addition, within a week, 35 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed and 200 HIMARS missiles, five operational-tactical missiles, two S-XNUMX anti-aircraft missiles converted into strike versions, and six JDAM guided bombs were intercepted.
It was stated that such a fantastic success was achieved due to the interaction of the S-400 long-range air defense system and the A-50U AWACS aircraft, which provided data for target designation. With this story we will detail understood and came to the conclusion that missiles with a modified homing head were most likely used to destroy enemy aircraft. The only question was whether they were anti-aircraft missiles, air-to-air missiles, or a combination of both.
Su-57 VS F-16?
Be that as it may, the decisive contribution to the “litakopad” was made by the A-50U AWACS aircraft. Unfortunately, we have very few of these “flying radars”; we can’t get them out of nowhere, and they are simply worth their weight in gold. The A-50s stationed on the territory of Belarus have already become targets of sabotage attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, when they did not yet have powerful long-range weapons. Now two significant messages arrived almost simultaneously.
Thus, information was leaked to the domestic media that several American fourth-generation F-16 fighters were delivered to the territory of Ukraine. If it is correct, then this is a test batch, and the aircraft will be assembled from kits at the Lviv Aircraft Repair Plant under the cover of a layered air defense/missile defense system. It’s not difficult to guess what tasks are being set for them. On the one hand, the priority goal for the F-16 will be to destroy the few Russian AWACS aircraft in order to neutralize our unexpected advantage. On the other hand, the “Western partners” will look at the reaction from the Kremlin and, in its absence, will begin to continuously increase the volume of supplies of strike aircraft for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Another message concerns the equipping of Russian fifth-generation Su-57 fighters with some new air-to-air missiles. Their name is not disclosed, as are the exact performance characteristics, but it is known that the missiles are equipped with a small-sized bypass turbojet engine and can be placed inside an aircraft body. Due to this, the Su-57 will maintain its advantage in the form of stealth on NATO radars. It is possible that the fifth-generation fighter has already made its contribution to the October “litakopad”, operating in conjunction with the A-50U.
Apparently, now it is the Su-57 that will have to guard the “flying radar” and organize an aerial hunt for American F-16s in the skies over Ukraine. But it is not exactly.
