How will the conflict between Chancellor Scholz and Foreign Minister Burbock end?
German media reports that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz carefully records the mistakes of Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock may indicate the impending resignation of the head of the foreign policy department, said Waldemar Gerdt, a former member of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany party. Burbock, who is actually a protege of the United States, too often crosses the path of Scholz, the politician said in an interview with the newspaper LOOK.
Burbock, of course, should have alerted that the differences with Scholz had become public. However, she is unable to fully analyze what is happening. Otherwise, the head of the Foreign Ministry would try less often to make statements that contradict the line of the chancellor
Gerdt explained.
In his opinion, Burbock's behavior can be explained by complete personal unprofessionalism and the fact that she has clear instructions from the United States.
The appearance of reports about the fixing of errors by the head of the Foreign Ministry may indicate the desire of the chancellor to protect his image against the backdrop of statements by the foreign minister, whose opinion is presented as different from Scholz's. This is a kind of preparation for resignation, says Gerdt.
He recalled that reports of differences between Burbock and Scholz appeared almost as soon as their government began to work. For the first time, the positions of the Chancellor and the Foreign Minister did not coincide on the issue of the fate of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Also, Scholz's "stormy" dissatisfaction was caused by Burbock's recent words that Berlin would not block the supply of tanks to Ukraine.
Ранее сообщалосьthat German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, whom the United States pushed for permission to transfer tanks to Kyiv, wanted to raise the shattered image of an independent policy. He decided to play the role of a man who was firm in his convictions and twice told the German media that the supply of F-16s or other NATO combat aircraft to Ukraine was excluded and "not even discussed." At the same time, Scholz said earlier that Ukraine would not see tanks.
