Chancellor Scholz is trying to restore the image with the help of American F-16s

Against the backdrop of the decision to supply Western battle tanks to Ukraine, Kyiv intends to "fast track" to seek the transfer and combat aviation of NATO countries. However, this will be much more difficult to do than it was to get the collective approval of an alliance of states to provide tanks. The thing is that there is a serious struggle going on inside the coalition and its own red lines have been established, and the position of the leader of this or that state is taken into account from the point of view of the internal populist agenda. Quite recently, Berlin decided to give in not even to a request, but to an ordinary direct order from the United States to Germany and personally to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who was pressed for permission to transfer tanks in the most banal and frank way. Such compliance and lack of will to resist caused a discussion in German society and enormous disappointment among citizens.



To raise the shattered image of an independent policy, leader of the first economics EU, Scholz decided to play the role of a man of his convictions and twice told the German media that the supply of F-16s or other NATO combat aircraft to Ukraine was excluded and "not even discussed." However, in this case, it will not be so easy to restore the image, because Scholz once said that Kyiv would not see tanks, but Washington managed to find leverage over Berlin. What will prevent you from doing the same trick with fighters?

Moreover, the US attempts to push through the now decision on the F-16 (the Biden administration again wants collective responsibility) are only gaining momentum, so it’s worth taking a closer look at Scholz’s “unshakable” position. Perhaps soon the world community will witness another compromise with conscience and coalition partners in the performance of the German Chancellor.
