During the Eastern Economic Forum (held September 2-5 in Vladivostok, Russia), Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev commented via video link on the issue of possible recognition of the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), which came to power in Afghanistan, Kazakhstani online edition Tengrinews.

The head of state noted that he wants to add one very important aspect to this issue (recognition or non-recognition) - two UN Security Council resolutions adopted in 2003 and 2011. Then the Taliban were outlawed.

Tokayev stressed that the return to the UN site of this topic is an extremely important signal. He drew attention to the fact that Kazakhstan is very concerned about what is happening on Afghan soil. The President recalled that Nur-Sultan took all necessary measures to evacuate its citizens from Afghanistan and provided all possible assistance to other partners.

The leader recalled that at the request of the UN, his country provided an opportunity for 237 employees of this organization in Afghanistan to move to Kazakhstan, where they now work, monitoring the situation at a distance. In addition, Nur-Sultan provided the airspace of Kazakhstan and airfields for refueling aircraft of other states that were taking out NATO troops and civilians from Afghanistan.

Note that the Taliban have been named China is its main partner. However, Beijing saidthat he is ready to recognize the new Afghan government after its formation.
