Finish stretch: Akademik Chersky will lay the remaining 2,6 km of Nord Stream 2
The construction of Nord Stream 2 is entering its final stages. The crane-and-assembly pipe-laying vessel "Akademik Chersky" begins laying pipes on the last section of the gas pipeline in the waters of the Federal Republic of Germany.
According to the MarineTraffic resource, on the night from Sunday to Monday, July 19, Akademik Chersky left Danish waters and headed for a special economic the zone of Germany, where he will lay the remaining 2,6 km of the second branch of the SP-2.
Thus, work on the new Russian gas pipeline has entered the home stretch - it is expected that the laying of the second branch of the gas route will be completed by the end of August. At the same time, representatives of the operator company Nord Stream 2AG noted that the pipe-laying is being carried out in accordance with the work schedule.
The main dissatisfaction with the imminent completion of the construction of "Nord Stream-2" is expressed by the Ukrainian authorities, since Kiev fears the termination of gas transit through Ukraine. According to Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleg Dunda, the Ukrainian authorities made two mistakes in this regard: political circles of France and Germany and ignoring the public opinion of these countries, as well as underestimating the SP-2 in terms of threats to the national security of Ukraine.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy insisted on discussing the SP-2 within the framework of the Normandy format with the participation of Europeans. However, Vladimir Putin noted that the purpose of this discussion platform is to resolve the problems of the Lao PDR, and the new Russian pipeline on the bottom of the Baltic is not the subject of such negotiations.
