New political scandal with the uniform of football players at the European Championship
The 16th European Football Championship "Euro 2020" is gradually turning from a grandiose sports championship into some kind of heap of scandals related to equipment, which has political background. Recently died down international scandal with the uniform of the Ukrainian team players, now Greece and North Macedonia decided to find out the relationship.
Athens demanded that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA or UEFA) change the name of the coat of arms displayed on the shirts (main and away) of the North Macedonian national team before its debut at the event. The group "Balkansky oglyadach" informed the public about this in its Facebook account.
The Greeks are protesting against the name "Football Federation of Macedonia", as it lacks the word "North". The North Macedonian Foreign Ministry responded to their objections.
Skopje reported that the specified name cannot be changed in accordance with the Prespa Agreement - an agreement that Greece and Macedonia signed on June 17, 2018 on the shores of Lake Prespa (according to this agreement, after many years of Greek efforts, the state of Macedonia agreed to change its name and became known as North Macedonia) ... It turned out that the "Football Federation of Macedonia" is an independent and non-profit organization registered as an NGO. She does not receive money from the state, therefore, is not subject to the above agreement, which applies exclusively to institutions and organizations financed from the country's budget.
Since the FMF does not receive public money, it is not obliged to correct the name
- explained the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Buyar Osmani.
