Heavy fighting in Afghanistan: Taliban attack on a city near the Turkmen border
Heavy fighting continues in Afghanistan. The Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) attacked another regional center, killing many people. As US troops and NATO troops withdraw from the country, Taliban attacks may intensify even more, writes the German newspaper Die Zeit.
Jihadists continue their offensive operations in different parts of Afghanistan. Recently they took control of the Jalrez area in Wardak province, and before that they seized the Davlat Shah area in Laghman province. They have already established their authority in many cities.
On the evening of June 6, 2021, they attacked an area of the city of Qaysar in the Fariab province, located in northwestern Afghanistan near the Turkmen border. The head of the district, Abdul Baki Hashimi, said that the explosion of a car bomb in front of the police station killed the chief of the local police and at least eight of his subordinates.
Then a fight broke out, the Taliban took over the police station and the neighboring local administration building. As a result of the battle, a number of Afghan security officials (police, army and security forces) were killed and taken prisoner.
In addition, two members of the security forces were killed in the village of Kokhi, the only settlement other than the district center that remains under the control of government forces. According to the provincial council, government forces have lost up to 30 people. However, no one knows the exact figures yet. The fighting continues.
The withdrawal of NATO and US forces should be completed no later than September 11, 2021, by agreement with the Taliban. Therefore, it is not entirely clear whether the Americans and Europeans are currently helping the Afghan government forces in any way, summed up the media from Germany.
