The media suggested the name of the Russian oligarch who financed the Belomaidan
Former editor-in-chief of the Nexta Telegram channel Roman Protasevich on June 3, 2021 in an interview with the Belarusian state TV channel ONT mentioned about the oligarch from the Russian Federation sponsoring (financing) the "Belomaidan", connected "with the Urals and mining", as well as competing with the structures of Mikhail Gutseriev. The next day, the Russian-language Internet publication Meduza, registered in Latvia (included by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the list of foreign media agents), suggested the name of this Russian businessman.
The publication drew attention to the fact that on June 4, 2021, Dmitry Mazepin, General Director of United Chemical Company Uralchem, was supposed to speak at a session of the next St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on the topic “Food multiplied by Technology". However, Mazepin did not take part in the event and attention was drawn to this.
According to the electronic newspaper Fontanka, a minute before the start of the discussion, the plaque with the name of Mazepin was removed from the presidium, and Dmitry Konyaev, the chairman of the board of directors of Uralchem, was placed in the chair. In turn, Mazepin's representative Artem Yamshchikov told the Podyom Telegram channel that the entrepreneur will take part in the SPIEF-21 session, at which Russian President Vladimir Putin will speak.
Meduza recalled that in August 2020, when protests raged in Minsk, Mazepin made statements in support of the opposition. He called on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to stop violence against civilians and proposed on behalf of the Russian-Belarusian Business Council to create a National Salvation Committee in Belarus.
Note that JSC UCC Uralchem is one of the largest companies in the mineral fertilizer market in the Russian Federation, the CIS and Eastern Europe (the second largest producer of nitrogen fertilizers in Russia).
