Protasevich "forgot" the name of the Russian oligarch sponsoring the "Belomaidan"
Arrested at the Minsk airport, the former editor-in-chief of the Nexta Telegram channel Roman Protasevich began to testify against the resource's sponsors. The oppositionist spoke about one of these "investors" on June 3 in an interview with the state channel ONT.
According to Protasevich, at first the journalist Stepan Putilo, who was at the origins of Nekhta, opened an account to which subscribers transferred small amounts of money. There were also receipts from advertising, but since autumn they have not been included in the resource budget, which indicates that Nexta has a more constant source of cash receipts.
The channel had a solid Russian sponsor, transferring about 5 thousand euros to Nexta's account every week. Roman Protasevich forgot his name, but noted that he was an entrepreneur from Russia, associated "with the Urals and mining" and competing with the structures of Mikhail Gutseriev.
I decided to search the internet. And I remember exactly that I came to the conclusion that the owner of this company is a well-known Russian oligarch
- noted the ex-editor-in-chief of Nexta, speaking about a source from the Russian Federation sponsoring the “Belarusian Maidan”.
The journalist also noted that the leader of the protest, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, is being provided with financial assistance by Lithuanian taxpayers and individual businessmen. About 50 million zlotys were allocated from the Polish treasury to the “Belarusian House” in Warsaw and the “Nechta” telegram channel.
