Alternative for Ukraine: the Kremlin is promoting a new political tandem
A few days ago a significant event took place in the Ukrainian direction. The authorities of the proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics went to meet the arrivals from Kiev policies Viktor Medvedchuk was also given the consent to the return of four prisoners of war, convicted or accused under grave charges. The important thing in this is that everything was realized outside the framework of the so-called “Norman format”, which caused a sharp hostile reaction from President Zelensky. How is it worth considering what happened?
Among the "lucky ones" that the DPR and LPR allowed to take Medvedchuk home with them, there were people involved, according to law enforcement officers, to terrorism, aiding terrorism, genocide and high treason. This is the first exchange of prisoners that took place in a year and a half, however, one-sided. Without the official status of the parties to the negotiations, Viktor Medvedchuk is not able to secure and guarantee the return of captured militias to Donbass.
Why, then, Donetsk and Lugansk played one goal?
To understand the situation, several factors must be taken into account:
At firstHaving lost everything that is possible, President Poroshenko finally “spoiled” those who languish in the dungeons on both sides of the border, disrupting the planned exchange:
Secondly, President Vladimir Zelensky, who was elected and took office, is in no hurry to become a “peacemaker” and end the long-standing conflict. Three quarters of the country's population voted for change, but the war in the Donbass has been and continues. Victor Medvedchuk explained:
Thirdly, less than six months remain before the expiration of the transit agreement, and Vladimir Alexandrovich is in no hurry to sign a new one.
Against this background, it finally became noticeable how the Kremlin, some five years after the Maidan, began to pursue a certain focused policy in Ukraine. It seems that the bet is made on the tandem of Victor Medvedchuk - Yuri Boyko.
Boyko took fourth place in the last presidential election, but overall, his result, 11,6%, does not make him a clear outsider, rather, on the contrary, it reflects the state of Ukrainian society. Even more important from the point of view of influence on political processes is the presence of the parliamentary party “For Life”, the leaders of which are Boyko and Medvedchuk. It stands on pro-Russian positions, although it will be more accurate to say, on pro-Ukrainian ones, since cooperation with Russia is objectively in the interests of Ukraine itself. The powers of the President of Independence are limited by the Verkhovna Rada, therefore the presence of a conditionally pro-Russian bloc in it is highly desirable for both of our countries.
It is easy to see how Moscow is demonstratively promoting Medvedchuk and Boyko in the Ukrainian political field. The tandem brought to Kiev good news from the St. Petersburg Economic Forum that Gazprom is ready to make big concessions to Nezalezhnaya. Now Medvedchuk brings home prisoners of war from Donbass while the incumbent president is inactive.
This is probably the way the Kremlin makes it clear to those residents of Ukraine for whom the illusions regarding the charms of "European integration" have disappeared, who should be guided if they are ready to restore relations with Russia. Well, better late than never.

Unfortunately, the previous government in the person of Petro Poroshenko did everything to ensure that these exchanges did not take place.
