Russian woman from St. Petersburg told how Americans live

15
Karina is well known on the Internet under the nickname "That Redhead from Seattle." Tens of thousands of people follow her Instagram page. This is not a collective image, but a very real girl.

Karina talks a lot about herself and often, because she loves and knows how to do it. And she really has something to tell about, because the girl has recently been living between Russia and America.

How Karina got to the USA

Although Karina and her husband are now mainly located in the United States, in the city of Seattle, she was born and lived almost all her life in St. Petersburg. The girl loves her hometown and never forgets about it.

However, she simply could not help moving to America, because she had dreamed about this since childhood. When Karina grew up, this dream turned into a goal. After graduation, she planned to look for work in the United States. And fate was such that her childhood dream came true.

After receiving a diploma, Karina gets married and goes on a honeymoon in the United States. It takes about three months, and her husband is sent to work in the United States, where she follows him.

Of course, as is usually the case with any dream, in reality it turned out to be a little different, not the same as it is imagined.

Well hello America!

America met Karina not very affectionately. Initially, the newlyweds settled in the town of Long Beach near Los Angeles.

The guys got into a depressed Mexican area. It was notable for dirty streets, cockroaches, an abundance of churches. Here, Karina was haunted by the smell of marijuana. People here live in some kind of huts, which you can’t even call houses.

In fairness, it should be noted that this place cannot be considered typical America. Just young people at first didn’t very well choose a place to live.

Later they found themselves in Seattle, where they live now. There, too, not everything corresponded to Karina’s ideas about the USA. For example, for some reason, she considered the Americans a model of style and taste, but in reality there was not even a hint of what she expected. In Seattle, for example, most residents prefer to wear sportswear.

She also did not expect to see so many homeless people in America.

How Americans live

Of course, it’s not quite right to evaluate these people as generalized. Americans, like us, are very different. But certain features that are not inherent in the Russians are striking.

For example, from the perspective of a typical American, Americans' views on marriage and relationships seem too frivolous. Here, in the order of things, getting married and getting divorced many times. For them, and at the age of 40, it is perfectly normal to go on dates in search of a second half. No one there is neither surprised nor condemned.

Americans are easy on age too. If you are already 60 years old and you decide to learn skateboard, then you will not become an object for ridicule. It makes no difference to those around whom someone decided to take their leisure time; this is not their business.

Girl from St. Petersburg

Although Karina enjoys living in America, she, of course, is drawn home to St. Petersburg. It’s not even that she would like to return, it’s not so. The girl, not ceasing to love her native Peter, fell in love with Seattle. She likes to live in two cities: between Seattle and St. Petersburg, between Russia and America.

In Seattle, she lacks St. Petersburg museums, exhibitions, art galleries. Karine lacks Petersburg cafes. There are many places in Seattle where you can eat deliciously, but there is not that special Petersburg atmosphere. There are no such beautiful places for walking, as in the historical part of St. Petersburg.

By the way, when Karina’s new American acquaintances find out that she has lived all her life in Russian St. Petersburg, they don’t ask about Russians or Russia. And it is not at all a negative attitude towards our country, it is absolutely neutral. It’s just that Americans are more interested in the city on the Neva. They ask when it is better to go there, what to see if it is dangerous there.

Actually, the more representatives of different countries and peoples communicate with each other, the less they have reasons for hostility.

RUSSIAN can’t dream of living in America since childhood - this is not where the truth begins.

Right! All these "dreamers" end up in the garbage dumps of Los Angeles or Seattle!

But what about those cheers for which they have a nightmare, and we have grace ???

Being a teacher or a doctor is not only a noble occupation, but also well paid. ........ in general, even for the minimum wage set by the state, one can live well in the United States. Yes, such people also complain, but most often they have a car, they have enough for food and housing. This lower bar is much higher here.

    Like, lying? Apparently yes.

    Hourly:

    Teacher ~ $ 20,38 / per hour
    Pharmacist ~ $ 53,39 / per hour
    Delivery driver ~ $ 16.90 / per hour
    Nurse ~ $ 38.36 / per hour

    Annual:

    Accountant ~ $ 59,059 / per year
    Lawyer ~ $ 140,118 / year
    Social Worker ~ $ 57,501 / year
    Engineer ~ $ 120,333 / year
    Software Engineer ~ $ 120,364 / year

Good afternoon! So you, that same designer from the USA?
Well, the authors acted so often, well at least not everything was invented.

And the numbers I have already taken from your Zen.
Between the real figures of payment - a teacher receives very much less than anyone with a higher education - and the statement "Being a teacher ... an occupation .... well paid." - clearly does not fit.

Was the penultimate paragraph crumpled in style, did your boss correct or sleepy? And where did the soft mark from the author's surname disappear? "Kuzma" and its derivatives ...
Somehow they are at ease with the soft sign, especially when translating the Chinese text - madam Wang -> Madam Vaughn, not Wong! And if a girl has three children, she can only be a mother.

I don’t know, for example, the last paragraph seemed more crumpled to me than the penultimate one :)

As for the soft sign in the surname - I won’t say for sure, I had to ask my great-great-grandfather. Or his great-great-grandfather. Although, maybe he did not know. The homeland of my ancestors is the border of the three Slavic republics, so with the origin of the surname it can be difficult.

And as for the girl with three children - I confess, sometimes a Soviet person crawls out of me. I still sometimes call sellers of pre-retirement age in stores as girls. They usually like it :)

I don’t know Chinese, so I try not to translate Chinese texts.

As for the soft sign in the surname - I won’t say for sure, it was necessary to ask my great-grandfather.

Most likely great-grandfather has nothing to do with it. As a rule, the names are changed by illiterate passportists. I know several such stories among friends.

... typical self-deception, she came up with the image of the States (or rather, she took it from the aggressive industry that the Americans drive in their films, etc.). And then it became difficult for herself to admit that she had been engaged in self-deception for so many years.

"Tasty food" in America for an ordinary American? Whom is she kidding? He just doesn't have enough money.
There are enough friends who have left and now live and work in the states. Everybody spits on food. My friend’s son brought his school friend to one of his visits to Minsk. We had to listen to Austin when he talked about food! I filled my home with a half-suitcase.

Although this is an excerpt from their feature film, the words spoken by the hero of Brad Pitt very accurately characterize the United States.
