Production stopped: West hit the GLONASS program

Serial production of K-series satellites for the domestic GLONASS system will be suspended. This decision was made by the Government of the Russian Federation due to the lack of imported spare parts.





Recall that components for the Russian navigation system are under EU sanctions, in view of the fact that the latter can be used not only for civilian, but also for military purposes. Plus, in 2018, the United States also stopped licensing dual-use products intended for export to the Russian Federation.

According to the conclusion of the Accounts Chamber on the draft amendments to the federal budget for 2019, expenses under the program “Maintaining, developing and using the GLONASS system for 2012-2020” will be reduced by 12,9 billion. It was decided that part of these funds in the amount of 6,9, 6 billion rubles will go to Roscosmos, and the remaining amount of XNUMX billion will be allocated to the implementation of the state program of the Ministry of Defense “Space Activities of Russia”.

However, the above does not mean that the Russian navigation system will completely lose funding. 7,05 billion rubles will be allocated for the program of replenishment and modernization of the GLONASS orbital group. In addition, thanks to the internal redistribution of funds, financing is being made for domestic design bureaus involved in the development of components for the purpose of import substitution.
