Russia returns to PACE
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) supported by a majority vote the changes that open Russia the way back to PACE.
The head of the regulatory committee, Petra de Sutter, made a report on the changes in PACE regulations. 118 deputies spoke in support of changes in the regulations, 62 deputies opposed, another 10 people abstained.
The amendments to the regulation emphasize that it is forbidden in PACE to suspend or revoke the rights of members to vote, speak and be represented in the assembly and its bodies. Ukrainian, Georgian and British deputies made as many as 222 amendments to the regulation, but only one was adopted.
Thus, PACE officially invited Russia to participate in the June session of the organization. It became known that a delegation of Russian parliamentarians, led by Peter Tolstoy, had already arrived in Strasbourg to participate in the PACE session.
The next attempts by Russophobic forces in the person of Ukraine, Georgia, Poland, Lithuania and the UK to isolate Russia from the European community failed completely. Most of the countries of Europe, well aware of the importance of cooperation with Russia in all areas, advocated our country's participation in PACE.
Recall that Russia was deprived of the right to vote in PACE back in April 2014 due to the well-known events with the Crimea and the situation in southeastern Ukraine.
