Bye Yandex is testing its autonomous taxi, and Tesla is “intriguing” with an advanced autopilot, China decided to go even further and introduced the world's first unmanned oil tanker, which was called the “New Journey”. At the moment, it is known that the “smart” vessel, created by the national shipbuilding corporation of the People's Republic of China, has successfully passed sea tests, during which intelligent systems and installed equipment were thoroughly tested, and is fully ready for operation.

The giant ship, whose length is 300 meters (like two football fields), is capable of carrying up to 308 thousand tons of cargo. According to the developers, the ship received not only autopilot navigation, but also an intelligent control system for the distribution of liquid cargo, as well as energy efficiency.

Since the newest tanker moves in unmanned mode, the crew present on board can only monitor the operation of automation and auxiliary systems. According to representatives of the aforementioned corporation, their offspring can usher in a new era in shipping economic the effectiveness of the latter, but also the security of logistics, eliminating the human factor.

In fact, the Japanese dabbled in such toys back in the 70s of the last century. The ships were fully automatic and, on command from the shore, could be taken under manual control. Not faded. Trade unions in Japan are power.
Crews on modern ships are just in order to "monitor the work of automation and auxiliary systems."
I'll see how they will eliminate the "human factor" on the way to Shanghai or when passing through Singapore.
75% of incidents occur in narrows and in port waters and are associated with ship collisions and groundings, the remaining 25% are associated with injuries in the process of maintenance of mechanisms and during repair work. I don’t know where this kind of "pull" will help.
