Retaliatory strike: Russia "will land" American "Boeing"
On April 13, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and four parliamentary factions submitted a bill on retaliatory measures against US sanctions. The document is called "On Measures of Impact (Counteraction) on Unfriendly Actions of the United States of America and (or) Other Foreign States".
This bill will be considered at a meeting of the State Duma Council, which will be held on April 16.
What does the bill include?
The initiative of parliamentarians provides for the adoption of a package economic и political measures:
What might be the consequences?
It is worth emphasizing that the bill is not a law yet. The President has yet to sign it, but Putin and his spokesman have not yet expressed their attitude towards him. Nobody can guarantee that the law will be signed and adopted, but the probability is high. Even if this bill is rejected, a response to US sanctions is necessary, and no one denies this need.
The question is only in the details. Many points require a very careful study. Any sanctions have several parties. Any restrictions create inconvenience for the limiting party, therefore, all consequences should be calculated.
For example, a clause on the termination of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, rocket and aircraft of technologies not as simple as it might seem. On the one hand, such a move can firmly press the United States.
Indeed, Russian titanium, supplied for the needs of American aircraft construction, is superior in quality to similar raw materials from other countries. About half of the titanium parts used in American aviation are made of Russian titanium. Replacing Russia with another supplier is almost impossible, at least very difficult.
On the other hand, supplies of titanium to the USA bring substantial profit to our country. Of course, it will be easier for us to find a different market for titanium than the United States to find another supplier, but this will not be done quickly, which means losses are inevitable.
The same goes for nuclear energy. Russia supplies enriched uranium to the United States for the needs of nuclear energy. In the context of increasing confrontation with the West, we must be sure that such cooperation does not harm our security. After all, this raw material is used not only for peaceful purposes, but also for the production of weapons.
I am sure that these and other considerations come to the heads of decision-makers. And they will find the right way out, after calculating all the possible consequences.
