Yandex began testing its unmanned vehicles in Israel

Yandex, which first introduced its unmanned vehicle back in 2017, announced on the eve of the expansion of its autonomous taxi test program on Israeli roads. According to the information received, as part of the testing, it is planned to increase the number of machines and expand the staff of developers who, together with Russian engineers, will participate in the finalization Technology.

Recall that unmanned vehicle tests include several basic steps. The first is to test all systems and nodes of the prototype in a simulator or at a closed training ground. After making the necessary amendments, the vehicle will continue to pass tests on public roads under the supervision of an engineer who is ready to take control at any time. At the same time, to create a universal drone, testing should be carried out in several settlements with different traffic congestion and under different weather conditions.

It is worth noting that future autonomous taxis from the domestic “search giant” managed to ride not only on Russian roads, but also on the US and Israel routes, which issued the corresponding permit at the end of 2018. Now, after Yandex conducted complex tests, the developer was allowed to continue full testing without the presence of an engineer from Technion University (Haifa, Israel). However, a specialist from the company, nevertheless, must be in the driver's seat.

In addition to testing their autonomous cars on the roads of Israel, Yandex is counting on cooperation with local developers. For example, the company Mobileye, which is engaged in computer vision systems, or Oryx Vision and Innoviz, which specialize in lidar for drones.
