The Ukrainian opposition is asking for gas from Russia. Gazprom gives a discount in 25%
The issue of providing Ukraine with Russian gas has recently been very acute. And not only representatives of the Ukrainian authorities are trying to solve it, but also the opposition.
The leaders of the Opposition Platform - For Life party, Yuri Boyko and Viktor Medvedchuk, arrived in St. Petersburg, where they met with the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller. The purpose of the meeting is to agree on the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine at affordable prices.
Viktor Medvedchuk noted that the new president, Vladimir Zelensky, was “not ripe” for negotiations with Russia on gas supplies. Therefore, the opposition has to act.
In turn, Alexey Miller said that Russia could resume gas supplies to Ukraine. At the same time, Gazprom is ready to supply gas at a 25% discount. According to Miller, recently, for some reason, the main attention has been paid to issues of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine, although the actual supply of gas to a neighboring state remains a much more burning issue.
Recall that the current contract for gas supplies to Ukraine expires at the end of 2019. Ukraine stopped direct gas purchases from Russia back in 2015, reorienting to the acquisition of gas from European countries. However, such a scheme caused an increase in gas prices for the Ukrainian population.
