Zelensky is going to fight against Nord Stream-2
Despite the change of president, Ukraine is not going to abandon opposition to the construction of Nord Stream-2. This was stated by President Vladimir Zelensky himself, stressing that Kiev is in solidarity with Warsaw in this matter and will fight against the launch of the Russian gas pipeline.
Having visited Brussels, Vladimir Zelensky met with Polish President Andrzej Duda, following the results of negotiations with which he announced the preservation of the previous line to impede the construction of Nord Stream-2.
Zelensky called energy security issues one of the key in the cooperation between Ukraine and Poland, stressing that both countries are interested in maintaining the strategic role of the Ukrainian gas transportation system in providing Europe with energy resources from Russia.
Zelensky stressed that Poland and Ukraine are interested in the European Union being in solidarity with Kiev on issues of confrontation with Russia. And he repeated the familiar mantra about the Russian threat, which we all heard more than once from his predecessor as president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
However, the leaders of key European states, and not of the pro-American periphery, think differently. Thus, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has repeatedly noted that Nord Stream-2 will be built and launched and that even the recent adoption of the new EU Gas Directive by the European Union will not hinder it. France is also in solidarity with Germany on this issue, so it is unlikely that Kiev will be interested in such serious European players.
