Ukraine may lose financial support from the EU and the IMF

The implementation of reforms imposed by the EU and IMF in Ukraine is the key to Kiev receiving financial assistance from these international structures.

According to the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, expressed in an interview RIA News", the refusal of the Ukrainian authorities to carry out these reforms may cause the termination of financial support for Kiev from the EU and the IMF.

This week, the new president of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, will visit Brussels. Presumably, the topic of the meeting will be a discussion of the situation in the Donbass, as well as the conviction of representatives of European structures in the commitment of the Ukrainian authorities to reform.

Chizhov does not exclude that Ukraine will be able to receive financial assistance from Europe, however, he notes that IMF assistance is much more significant than European and that the fund is the main source of lending for Kiev.

According to the Permanent Representative, in the future everything will depend on how Zelensky is ready to carry out reforms, including unpopular ones, which the former president Petro Poroshenko once ignored.

Actually, in this state of affairs there is nothing unusual. As you know, the one who pays and orders the music, and “money in exchange for reform” is the standard working scheme of the IMF and the EU.

It is already obvious that during his tenure as president, Vladimir Zelensky is unlikely to be able to make independent decisions. Moreover, for the West it will be more predictable and more manageable than Petro Poroshenko.
