New Year holidays in Russia will be reduced
On May 31, 2019, the Russian Tripartite Commission for the Regulation of Social and Labor Relations (RTK) is due to consider a draft government decree on the postponement of holidays in 2020. The commission consists of representatives of all-Russian associations of trade unions, all-Russian associations of employers and government representatives. If the document is approved, then it will be signed by the head of government.
As specified, the reduction in the number of days off during the New Year holidays in 2020 may occur for technical reasons. Indeed, according to article 112 of the Labor Code, non-working (holidays) in Russia are January 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 - New Year holidays and January 7 - Christmas. So the New Year holidays in 2020 will last eight days, not ten, as it was in 2018 and 2019.
In the previous two years, the New Year holidays were two days longer due to December 30 and 31 of the previous year. For example, December 30 and 31, 2018 fell on Saturday and Sunday and automatically added to the New Year holidays of 2019. And in 2017, Saturday, December 29, was made working, moving the day off to Monday December 31. Therefore, the New Year holidays of 2018 were also 10 days.
In 2019, December 30 is Monday, and December 31 is Tuesday, i.e. working days and transfers are not planned. But the weekend of January 4 and 5, 2020, falling on Saturday and Sunday, is proposed to be postponed to Monday and Tuesday May 4 and 5, 2020.
In addition, they want to celebrate Defender of the Fatherland Day from February 22 to 25, 2020, and International Women's Day from March 7 to 9, 2020. In turn, the Labor Day will be held from May 1 to 5, 2020, and Victory Day will be celebrated from May 9 to 11, 2020. As for the Day of Russia, it will be celebrated from June 12 to June 14, 2020, and the Day of National Unity - November 4, 2020.
It should be noted that the government takes such decisions every year. And each time they coordinate them with trade unions and employers.
