Today, May 27 at 9.23 a.m. (Moscow time), the Soyuz-2.1b middle-class rocket made a successful launch from the Plesetsk cosmodrome. The mission of the device was to launch the Glonass-M satellite into near-Earth orbit. At the estimated time, the head part of the spacecraft, consisting of the RB "Frigate" and the aforementioned satellite, performed the separation from the third stage.

According to reports from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the launch and further flight of the carrier took place as usual. At the same time, the escort of the apparatus was carried out by ground-based means of the GIKTS them G.S. Titova.

Recall that this was the first launch of the aforementioned carrier from the cosmodrome in Plesetsk this year. Initially, the output of the Glonass-M satellite was scheduled for May 13, but the date was later adjusted. The device is designed to change its predecessor, whose life has come to an end.

In general, today, the Glonass system unites 26 satellites. Of these, 24 are operated as intended, and another 2 are in reserve.

In addition to Glonass-M, in 2019 it is planned to launch 2 more devices: Glonass-K and Glonass-K2. And in 2020, the constellation should be replenished with 5 satellites, including the last of the “M” series.
