Rostec created the first domestic supercomputer on Elbrus
Engineers from INEUM them. I.S. Bruka, together with the RSK group of companies, developed the first fully domestic supercomputer operating on the 8-core Elbrus-8C chips. This was stated by Vladimir Kabanov, the general director of the Avtomatika concern, which includes the aforementioned institute, during his speech at the CIPR-2019 conference.
The maximum server rack performance currently reaches 75 teraflops. However, due to the possibility of combining the latter into a single computing cluster, a further increase in computer power is practically unlimited.
According to Kabanov, the main feature of the brainchild of the Avtomatika concern is its high energy efficiency and fault tolerance, which were achieved thanks to proprietary power supply algorithms and a unique monitoring system. So, only 6% of the total energy consumption is spent on cooling the first Russian supercomputer.
Another indisputable advantage of the device is the high level of information security provided by Elbrus-8C processors. Domestic chips do not allow illegally gaining access to information and remotely affect the work processes performed by a computer, as it is guaranteed to not contain “bookmarks”.
According to the statement of Vladimir Kabanov, the apparatus developed by the Avtomatika concern can find application in various fields where high-performance computing and work with a large amount of data are required. For example, in mathematical modeling, medicine, industry, neural network computing and many other areas.
