Russia begins development of a rocket with a return stage
Roscosmos plans to start developing the first Russian missile with a return stage in the near future. This was stated by the head of the state corporation during his speech with a lecture at Moscow State University.
Dmitry Rogozin emphasized that the new missile will be inexpensive, and the details for its creation will require almost half that used in existing domestic carriers.
In addition, the functionary revealed some technical characteristics of the future device. So, based on his statements, the new rocket will be able to put into orbit up to 9 tons of payload and will operate on methane engines. The choice in favor of the latter was made due to the fact that such units do not need additional cleaning. In addition, Rogozin emphasized that developments in the field of methane engines in Russia are already available and will soon be included in the new edition of the space development program.
Recall that the previous head of the state corporation Igor Komarov in March 2017 stated that Roscosmos was working on the creation of reusable media. However, a year later, Dmitry Rogozin, who was then deputy prime minister, sharply criticized Komarov’s statement.
The functionary then noted that Russia does not have the opportunity to create reusable missiles similar to those available for SpaceX. The first stage of American vehicles land on an offshore platform that can be adjusted anywhere. “Where are we going to plant?” In Yakutia, or what? ” - declared Rogozin.
