Time has passed: the United States gave Turkey two weeks to abandon the S-400

The United States demanded that Turkey within two weeks to abandon the purchase of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-400. This was told by the American television channel CNBC, citing its own sources.

During this time, the Turks will have to abandon the deal with the Russians and purchase US Patriot air defense systems. Otherwise, Ankara will be excluded from the international program for the production of F-35 aircraft, organized by the American company Lockheed Martin, which involves Turkey getting one hundred units of this equipment.

In addition to exclusion from the program, in case of receiving Russian S-400, Washington may introduce a set of restrictive measures against Turkey. CNBC calls this ultimatum "the State Department’s latest proposal."

According to the Russian-Turkish agreement, the shipment of S-400 systems should begin in July of this year.

Although Ankara has repeatedly stated that it is not going to refuse to purchase them, the United States does not stop trying to force it to abandon its decision. The United States argues its claim that Russian complexes do not meet NATO standards. Turkey, in turn, declares that it is not going to integrate the systems into the air defense system of the North Atlantic Alliance.
