Zelensky is preparing a referendum on how to talk with Russia
The administration of the new Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky makes the first statements after the inauguration yesterday.
The head of the presidential administration, Andrei Bogdan, on the air of one of the Ukrainian television channels, said that Vladimir Zelensky is planning a nationwide referendum, which will raise questions about the format in which to negotiate with Russia.
According to Bogdan, the referendum will allow to know and take into account not only the opinion of the president and deputies, but also the people of Ukraine on how to reach peace agreements with Russia and how to resolve the conflict lasting for the fifth year in the Donbas.
The official noted that first it will be necessary to adopt a law, on the basis of which a referendum will be held.
Undoubtedly, a referendum is an effective way to directly influence society on decisions made by the state. However, given the current Ukrainian realities, when the media have been brainwashing the population for the fifth year, how objective will the results of this referendum be?
Recall that during the inauguration, Zelensky said that he was “ready for anything” to end the conflict in the Donbass and plans to return the “retained persons,” to which Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the Minsk agreements have a corresponding provision and the Ukrainian president should start a conversation precisely from this.
