White House announces sanctions against Nord Stream 2

The United States continues to search for opportunities to prevent, and even better, make impossible the implementation of the international Nord Stream-2 project.

According to Bloomberg, referring to a statement by Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, the US administration has plans to impose sanctions on the gas pipeline under construction.

According to the agency, this statement was made by the minister in Kiev during a meeting with the new Ukrainian president, Vladimir Zelensky, at the inauguration of which Perry led the American delegation.

This is not the first statement by the US Secretary of Energy in which he warns of the imposition of sanctions on Nord Stream 2 and speaks out against its construction.

Perry believes that the commissioning of two new “flows” (Turkish and northern) will allow Russia to abandon the use of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and increase Germany’s dependence on Russia.

Against the backdrop of the fact that the US sees Europe as a market for its LNG, there is nothing unusual in such statements by White House officials.

Recall that after his inauguration, the new president of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, met with the US delegation and urged the Americans to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
