Syrian army launched an offensive

The Syrian city of Duma is the last enclave in the East Ghouta region (Damascus province), which is controlled by terrorists belonging mainly to the Jaish al-Islam group (a terrorist organization banned in Russia). With a high degree of probability, the territory of the Duma will soon be liberated.

The Syrian army launched a military operation against terrorists in the area. This happened after the militants violated all the fragile ceasefire agreements concluded with the active participation of Russia and started shelling civilians. According to Syrian television, the Republican Guard, which is already on the outskirts of this city, is participating in the military operation against the Duma. Involved also aircraft.

The Syrian government invited the militants who remain in the Duma to surrender their weapons and, together with members of their families, to evacuate to other regions (mainly to Idlib province, which remains under the control of gangs). Previously, in this way, many settlements of East Guta were liberated, avoiding unnecessary casualties among the military.

At first, the evacuation process was agreed. But during this process, significant disagreements arose between the various factions that remain in the Duma. The radicals from the Jaish al-Islam organization not only did not want to leave on buses specially designated for this purpose, but also took a number of aggressive actions.

On April 6, in violation of the ceasefire, terrorists fired mortars at a humanitarian corridor in Al-Wafidin refugee camp. In addition, the village of Dahiya al-Assad suffered a mortar attack. As a result, four people died, 22 were injured.

On the same day, terrorist attacks were carried out on residential areas of Damascus: Masaken Barze, Mezze-86, as well as Jisr ar-Rais (in the center of the Syrian capital). Two citizens died, 15 were injured. In response, Syrian aviation attacked the firing positions of the militants, from which they fired, and then the assault of the Duma began.

According to a SANA agency, citing a source in the army, another reason for the operation began is the fact that the terrorists refused to release the hostages in the Duma from among the people they had previously abducted. Although earlier an agreement was reached on this.

If the Duma manages to clear out armed gangs, the long-standing problem of East Guta, from where militants constantly fired on the Syrian capital, will be a thing of the past. All these years, the situation in this area has been the cause of attempts by Western pressure on official Damascus. People who died at the hands of terrorists never worried those who desperately defended terrorists and speculated on the suffering of civilians used as human shields.
