One Hundred Thousand Bayonets: Should the US Attack Venezuela Wait?

2
Having finally signed his own inability to bring about the coup d'etat he had undertaken with the support of Washington, the self-proclaimed "president" of Venezuela Juan Guaido openly spoke not about the possibility, but about the "necessity" of direct US military intervention in the country. The actions taken by this “oppositionist” and his associates clearly indicate that they can only come to power on the bayonets of their true masters. The only question is whether the United States will do this. Despite Washington’s ardent desire to seize Venezuela, there can be no definite answer.

As it became known, at the next "popular anti-government rally" in Caracas, where the turnout, according to malicious journalists, came close to the mark of "one and a half crippled", Guaido told his supporters that he had already given his representative Carlos Vecchio the task of "urgently leaving for Washington to meet with the US military. ” Negotiations are expected to take place between the coup’s “ambassador” and representatives of the Southern Command of the US Armed Forces. The goal is “establishing direct contacts” for “cooperation in resolving the difficult situation in Venezuela”.

After statements made by Guaido himself that he “would probably have accepted the US military intervention,” if such had been proposed, immediately, however, having put the matter to a vote in the rebellious “parliament”, which is a bunch of the same American puppets as he himself, there is no doubt about the true purpose of this meeting. “Cooperation” in this case simply cannot take the form other than direct military intervention by the United States Army. With all other options, Guaido and his handful of gorlopanov will not last, perhaps, until the fall. They are clearly tired of the Venezuelan people worse than that bitter radish.

The White House and the US Department of State have repeatedly voiced assumptions about “any scenarios” of actions regarding Venezuela, thereby transparently hinting at the admissibility of a military invasion. However, speaking is one thing ... The practical implementation of Washington’s aggressive plans rests on the price of the issue, which may well be prohibitive. Two main factors play a decisive role here: firstly, the presence of military experts from Russia and China in the country, which automatically translates the attempt of American armed intervention into the plane of a possible conflict with these countries, relations with which the United States is already extremely tense.

Secondly, the Armed Forces of Venezuela are (again, first of all, thanks to Russia) not the tiny armies of Grenada or Panama. Consequently, forces and means here will have to be involved in completely different ones. That’s the whole snag ... To begin with, the Pentagon’s South American Regional Command, which the Venezuelan impostors are so eager to meet, is actually capable of operating several warships and personnel of less than XNUMX people. It, in fact, is the smallest and weakest of a dozen such units of the US Armed Forces. For the operation in Venezuela such “power” is not enough for sure.

No, a "military expert" has already been found who has proclaimed that "the operation to overthrow Maduro, carried out by American special forces with the support of the Marine Corps, will last a day or two on its strength." But this is bad luck - this “expert” is from Ukraine. This, let’s say so, automatically reduces the value of his "authoritative opinion", and, practically, to zero. And, by the way, specialists of the corresponding profile from the USA adhere, for the most part, to the diametrically opposite point of view. For example, retired U.S. Navy Admiral James Stavridis, who for three years led the very same Southern Command, which Guaido had hoped for, stated bluntly that he considered the invasion of Venezuela a very bad idea. He de, "knows too well what is really happening in the region."

Other experts were quick to recall that in order to attack the tiny Grenada in 1983, the Pentagon needed 10 thousand soldiers. Six years later, the 27th expeditionary force carried out the intervention in Panama. How many people do you need to “establish democracy” in Venezuela ?! US military expert Shannon O'Neill estimates the minimum size of the invasion army, which the United States needs at one hundred thousand people! With the appropriate logistics, of course. He bases his opinion on the fact that Venezuela has an area twice that of Iraq and a slightly smaller population. At the same time, according to O'Neill, the "liberators" from the United States there "just will not be welcomed with open arms." Rather, the invasion will further rally the people of the country around Nicolas Maduro and the army supporting him.

What will be the losses with so many invaders striking the country, given that they will be confronted by armed forces trained and equipped much better than the Iraqi army? And much more persistent, besides ... It is difficult to make any forecasts, but the Pentagon will not do with minimal losses, definitely. Moreover, according to sane people in Washington, such a bloody operation will inevitably push away from the United States all its current allies in Latin America, including even those who are not Maduro’s sympathies today.

Based on all this, Juan Guaidó is likely to receive not one hundred thousand “bayonets”, on the basis of which he wants to seize power, which is becoming more unattainable every day, but something like the notorious ears from a donkey who valiantly fell into struggle for democracy. No, it’s all packed, for sure, it will be beautiful - in Washington’s loud assurances of “full support” and “most ardent approval”. Perhaps even - in new sanctions against Venezuela and threats to the rebellious Caracas. But from this, neither the donkey will come to life, nor Guaido will become president.
