The United States admitted defeat: Turkey has not refused to purchase the S-400

1
After the United States nearly staged a Turkish Maidan in 2016, Ankara’s current resistance to Washington’s pressure is more than justified.

The American publication The Wall Street Journal, in one of its materials, notes with chagrin that during the past consultations the USA failed to get Turkey to refuse to buy Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.

The spokesman for the Turkish president, Ibrahim Kalyn, at the end of the consultations expressed hope that Washington would refrain from imposing sanctions on Ankara due to the purchase of the S-400.

According to him, "sanctions will be counterproductive and lead to negative consequences." At the same time, the representative of Erdogan added that Turkey has a legitimate security concern.

Ibrahim Kalyn also noted that the Turkish side does not refuse to acquire the American Patriot system and considers it interesting to compare their qualities in practice.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that Ankara takes full advantage of its current advantages. It is unlikely that the United States will risk escalating the conflict with a country that has the second largest army in the NATO bloc. In addition, Washington is well aware that having lost in 2016, it will no longer be possible to arrange another Ukraine from Turkey in the near future.
