Ex-Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation criticized the domestic aviation industry
The aviation industry of the Russian Federation has ceased to be competitive in the world market due to the wrong development strategy. This statement was made by Anatoly Serdyukov at a meeting of the State Duma during a discussion of the problems of the military-industrial complex of Russia.
Mr. Serdyukov from 2007 to 2012 served as Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation. He currently oversees the integration of the United Aircraft Company (UAC) into Rostec Corporation.
The top manager criticized the domestic aircraft industry. Serdyukov believes that aircraft manufacturers are investing heavily in import substitution of products that were developed 50 or more years ago.
At the same time, almost nothing is being done to maintain existing production capacities and maintain the existing equipment. Many aviation enterprises are less than half-loaded. Thus, crazy costs are attributable to the small volume of equipment produced, which makes the cost of finished products too high and the price uncompetitive.
