Drone technique gaining more and more popularity, and, as it turned out, not only in the sky and on land. On the eve it became known that this year the first freighter with autonomous control will be launched. The container ship Yara Birkeland, designed for 100-1500 containers, will set off on its own voyage.

The creators of the first cargo drone are the Norwegian company Kongsberg Gruppe, which specializes in navigation systems, and Yara International, the largest supplier of mineral fertilizers. The cost of a ship equipped with an electric power plant will be almost 3 times higher than that of a conventional floating craft of this class and will amount to $ 25 million.

However, the developers are confident that all the costs will be able to quickly recoup due to savings in fuel and crew, which according to their calculations can reach 90%. However, the functionaries hurried with the crew. In the first stages, people will control the ship. And the vessel will go into autonomous mode only when the relevant legislation is adopted.

According to some experts, after 10-15 years, unmanned aerial vehicles will be widely used, not only in the military, but also in the civilian fleet. Recall that the first military drone was the American Sea Hunter, designed to detect submarines.
