As reported by RIA News, before the end of this year, a secret spacecraft should be launched in Russia. There is no data on its characteristics and the tasks assigned to it; only the name of the satellite is known - "Neutron".

For the first time, information about the upcoming launch was published in the corporate newspaper of the Lavochkin NPO enterprise. This company is known as Russia's chief designer, manufacturer and tester of spacecraft and booster blocks. The company's products are widely used in domestic astronautics and basic research.

The launch of the carrier rocket with the Neutron on board is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2018 from the Plesetsk cosmodrome, which is used to launch unmanned defense, applied, and scientific aircraft, including commercial ones. Based on the available information, it can be assumed that the satellite has a military purpose. However, this is its direct purpose remains a secret.

Intelligence. Judging by the name, it will monitor atomic objects by neutron background. The most reliable way by the way. So they managed to finally reduce the dimensions of the sensor without loss of sensitivity.
