"Victory" abandoned the MS-21 and remained faithful to the Boeing 737
The Russian low-cost carrier Pobeda refused to replace its Boeing 737 with the MS-21. Meanwhile, the airline’s transition to new MS-21 aircraft was previously considered.
The decision to abandon the use of MS-21 was made following a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov. As reported TASS, the new MS-21 aircraft will be used by Aeroflot itself, and its budget subsidiary Pobeda will retain the Boeing 737 fleet.
The choice in favor of the Boeing 737 is dictated, first of all, by considerations economic benefits. The Boeing monopark significantly reduces the likely financial costs that the company will incur if it purchases new MS-21s.
Not so long ago, the government was considering replacing the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft with the thirty new MS-21 aircraft for the Pobeda low-cost airline. Such a recommendation, of course, was affected by the Boeing 737 plane crash in Ethiopia, in which Russian citizens also died. After this plane crash, many airlines around the world have revised their attitude to one of the most popular aircraft.
But, ultimately, the management of the low-cost airline abandoned this idea. Indeed, for a budget segment airline, an increase in costs is always equal to an increase in the cost of tickets, and this is unacceptable in the current situation. After all, a low-cost airline serves a huge number of budget flights, which fly representatives of all sectors of the population of the country.
Recall that Pobeda Airlines is a subsidiary of Aeroflot, which owns 100% of the low-cost airline. It is based at the Moscow Vnukovo airport, and the company's planes have almost the highest daily flight time in the world. Now the low-cost airline has 24 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft at its disposal.
