Russian designers designed a drone for the ISS

Drones have long and quite successfully been used in many "terrestrial" spheres of human activity. So why not use these unmanned devices in space, in particular at the International Space Station? It was such an idea that occurred to the Russian developers who prepared the UAV project for the ISS.

According to a report on the eve of the publication RIA News, On board the orbital complex, it is planned to test a unique drone, which in the future can become an indispensable assistant for researchers. The purpose of testing is to refine the control system, as well as a general assessment of the technical characteristics of the device.

At the first stage, it is planned to use a drone with a propeller engine. The device will interact with the base station and controls adapted for space operation. The new drone will be equipped with fasteners for small loads, technical vision and devices for grabbing handrails. All this will be needed in the future for the effective use of the apparatus outside the orbital station.

In the case of successful testing inside the complex, the UAV engine will be replaced from the propeller to the jet, which will allow it to operate in space. It is assumed that the tests of the Russian drone for the ISS will last several years.
