Smartphones will teach you to check the quality of water

2
Dutch astronomers from Leiden University have begun to develop a device for a smartphone that will measure water pollution. It would seem, what do astronomers have to do with water quality and the development of gadgets? The fact is that the new device is based on Technology determining the presence of oxygen on other planets. Using this method, you can find out the quality of water without specialized laboratories and research.

Prior to this, the iSPEX (Spectropolarimeter for Planetary Exploration) technology, developed by the same astronomers in collaboration with toxicologists, proved extremely successful. This smart device for a smartphone allows monitoring of air purity. Many thousands of Europeans took part in the project, which helped create a detailed map of suspended dust particles.

The color of the water used for calculation is influenced by many factors, such as wind, raising sand and silt from the bottom, or clouds obscuring the sun. To obtain more accurate results, the user should also take pictures of the sky over the reservoir of interest to him. While the technology is in the running-in phase, it will take at least two more years to bring it to mind. Scientists hope that ultimately they will succeed, and the knowledge accumulated through cosmic studies will benefit Earth.

And how is one related to the other? And will the background determine the presence of cow urine in the water from a neighboring farm?
