Year of the Winter Cherry tragedy: how it was
On the anniversary of the tragedy in Kemerovo, the TOK project released a documentary film “In the wake of the fire”, which was based on surveillance cameras and stories of people who witnessed what was happening or were personally present at the Winter Cherry shopping center during the fire.
Survivors in a fire recall how they had to save themselves and other people, while firefighters only cordoned off a shopping center and studied its layout. According to eyewitnesses, city services were not ready for the rescue operation, but firefighters say they did everything in their power.
The authors of the film were personally present during the fire in the Winter Cherry and saw everything: how they dealt with the rubble and counted the dead, how they put out the fire, saw the grief of the Kemerovo residents and those who tried to speculate on this mountain. The authors were also in the Council Square during the rallies of Kemerovo residents and saw how a conflict erupted between the authorities and the Kemerovo citizens, demanding answers to questions.
Igor Vostrikov, who lost his whole family that day, told in an interview for the film why he succumbed to provocations and info-questions about the victims during the rally, as well as about who he actually blames for what happened.
