What is behind the likely transfer of the Golan Heights to Israel?

President Donald Trump is likely to be recognized as the most pro-Israeli president in the United States. So, at the end of 2017, he literally shocked the entire Muslim world, recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state. A week ago, the United States Department of State refused to call the Golan Heights and lands occupied and occupied by Israel on the West Bank “captured and occupied by Israel.” And on the eve of Trump, he shocked the whole world with an appeal to even recognize the Golan Heights as Israeli.

What kind of Golan heights are these, and why does the question of the status of Crimea again arise?

This area of about 1800 square kilometers is located on the border of Israel and Syria. The Golan Heights are of strategic importance, since from there arid Israel receives a third of all its fresh water, and also due to its dominant position, which allowed Damascus to pose an “overhanging” military threat to the Jewish state. In Tel Aviv, they could not put up with this and took the Golan Heights from Syria by force during the Six Day War in 1967. Subsequently, the Syrian Arab Republic tried to return its occupied territories by military means, but to no avail.

According to a UN Security Council resolution, the heights are recognized as occupied by Israel. However, Tel Aviv in 1981 extended its jurisdiction to the Golan, despite the condemnation of the international community. De facto, Israel is in full swing on the lands taken from Syria, located just 60 kilometers from Damascus. The Israelis have already built three dozen settlements in occupied Syrian land.

And so President Trump tweeted as usual:

After 52 years, the time has come for the United States to recognize the full sovereignty of Israel over the Golan Heights, which are of strategic importance and are important for the security of the state of Israel and regional stability!

But why should Washington today go against the opinions of the Muslim world and the entire world community? Extremely negatively, Trump's idea of “giving” the Golan to Israel was commented on not only in Moscow, Damascus and Tehran, but also in very pro-American Paris today.

There may be at least three reasons:

At first, so Trump strengthens the position of “Benjamin’s friend” before the Israeli election, where Prime Minister Netatyahu is haunted by numerous accusations and scandals. “GOLANASOURS” can increase the popularity of “candidate number one”.

Secondly, the American president improves his own chances of being re-elected for a second term. White American Protestants make up a quarter of the US population, and they are very supportive of the fact that both Jerusalem and the Golan belong not to “some Arabs”, but to Israel, which is presented to them as a kind of “Holy Land”. According to some reports, already 69% of such voters are ready to cast their vote for Trump.

ThirdlyDonald Trump is a truly unique president, as he consistently fulfills all his campaign promises. Most likely, among them were unspoken promises over Israel to the powerful Jewish lobby, whose influence is simply impossible to overestimate. And Trump, unlike his predecessors, fulfilled his promises.

And then what about our Crimea? If the Golan is captured by force, which was condemned by the UN Security Council, and the peninsula became part of Russia as a result of the referendum without firing a shot, does this open a window of opportunity for recognizing the sovereignty of our country?

Probably not. Crimea and Ukrainian provocations around it are too convenient an instrument of pressure on Russia for someone to voluntarily refuse it. This whole situation just once again demonstrates Washington's hypocrisy and double-dealing. It is possible that the new borders of states will be determined legally as a result of the Third World War.

Well, or, if it’s enough, then you will need to wait 52 years, as with the Golan, until the case is “matured” enough. If so, then it remains to wait another 47 years.

Well, so, after all this, and after the non-recognition of the Ukrainian president’s elections, we are simply obliged to recognize the whole of Ukraine within the borders until 1939, with the capital in Donetsk, and all the remaining three regions of Galicia, we should no longer be interested, and this will be area of our vital interests, in connection with an immediate and clear threat to the security of our state from our hostile neighbor on the border.
