It will work for two years: in Russia they created an artificial heart

Russian scientists from the Progress military plant created an apparatus that in the future will be able to bring domestic transplantology to a new level. We are talking about a children's artificial heart that provides the recipient with at least 2 years of life and, most importantly, allows you to wait for the donor organ. It is worth noting that similar technology already used in the USA, however, an imported implant will cost twice as much as a domestic one.





The manufacture of the apparatus requires maximum accuracy. That is why, the assembly process proceeds under special conditions. The workshop, in which engineers work, is separated from the plant foundation by dampers. The latter allows you to protect the room from the slightest vibration.

The parts that make up the pumps are fastened together under a microscope. The size of most of them does not exceed poppy seeds. During assembly, only brass tools and wooden sticks are used to avoid scratches in which blood clots can form.

The implant design can be safely called eternal. The body of the artificial heart for children is made of titanium, and sensors that monitor blood flow and rotor work are mounted in its inner walls. The polished inner surface is coated with diamond spraying, which completely eliminates the formation of at least one dust particle.

The two tubes that exit the pump are lined with surgical tissue, allowing them to fuse with the walls of the blood vessels. The implant control panel is located outside (slightly below the ribs) and is connected to the pump via a reinforced cable. Complete with the device are: 2 batteries, a belt for the remote control, titanium wrenches and a special scalpel.

The development of Russian scientists has already successfully passed animal tests. However, nothing is yet known about the timing of receipt of devices in medical facilities.
