Future President of Kazakhstan: Nazarbayev leaves room for maneuver

2
The problem of the so-called "transit of power" sooner or later confronts the elites in the entire post-Soviet space. Behind such decisions are whole clans formed around the head of state, whose well-being and untouchability directly depend on his political longevity.

For example, President Heydar Aliyev handed over Azerbaijan to his son Ilham without further ado. President Yeltsin brought his successor Vladimir Putin to the Kremlin by the hand. Putin himself “castled” with Medvedev to circumvent the constitutional restrictions on the number of terms, although the idea of a “third term” was actively promoted then. “Problem 2024” can again be solved with another “castling” or they can do the trick by the State Council or with the Union State. Therefore, the Kremlin is watching with great interest how Nursultan Nazarbayev, who has been at the presidency for 30 years, decides the issue of "transit of power" in Kazakhstan.

News that Nursultan Abishevich was “tired and leaves” was shocked at first. But then circumstances became clear that made it possible to understand what scheme of power transfer within the Nazarbayev clan was adopted in Astana (now Nursultan). The problem of the retired Nursultan Nazarbayev is that he has no sons. There are three daughters, nephews and grandchildren. The East is a delicate matter, and it may not be easy for a woman at the head of a Muslim state. However, Kazakhstan, apparently, will be led by the daughter of Nazarbayev, Dariga.

She is 55 years old, she is very well educated, has three degrees. Dariga Nazarbayeva worked in the banking sector, and she led the party, she was in the parliament, she worked in the government, and she was involved in charity work. She is a versatile and experienced person. However, with all the positiveness of the image, there is also a dark spot in the past. Her now ex-husband, Rakhat Aliyev, had serious problems with Kazakh justice and was put on the wanted list for kidnapping with the aim of extortion. Aliyev was detained in Austria, where he was found hanged in prison in 2015. It should be noted that the Kazakh authorities demanded the extradition of Aliyev from Austria, but they were refused, and Dariga divorced him almost immediately after a criminal case was opened against him.

After these sad events, the career of the president’s daughter began to develop rapidly. Initially, she was appointed to the post of deputy prime minister in the government of the country, and after that she moved to the Senate. The Kazakhstan Senate is the most important state body, since its head in the event of the resignation of the president becomes the head of state. Until recently, it was “Dmitry Anatolyevich” Tokaev.

Tokaev is not independent political figure and is very convenient for "castling", and therefore became president until 2020. Now, the Senate led by unanimous vote Darig Nazarbayev. The outline is pretty simple. Nursultan Abishevich himself retained key powers: he is still the head of the ruling party and the leader of the nation, is a member of the Constitutional Council and the life-long head of the Security Council of Kazakhstan. So that “Dmitry Anatolyevich” Tokayev did not think of something until 2020, the presidential powers were reduced in advance, and for this period he was forbidden to accept amendments to the Constitution. The government is made accountable to parliament, where the party is run by Nazarbayev. And his daughter Dariga is the number one contender for the post of head of state, if it happened to Tokaev.

But will Dariga be the president of Kazakhstan? Absolutely optional. Although Nursaltan Abishevich has no sons, he has a large family.

The Kazakh leader has several nephews. Nurtay Abykaev once headed the Senate himself and was the country's ambassador to Moscow, Akhmetzhan Yesipov was the mayor of the capital of Kazakhstan. Another of his nephew Samat even took the name of his grandfather Abish as his last name. He is a general and is the first deputy head of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan. Samat Abish is such a “Kazakhstan Putin”. Dariga Nazarbayeva herself has three children, whose eldest, Nurali, is already 34 years old.

Thus, Nursultan Abishevich has a spare bench, albeit not very long. As a wise old man, he prepared the country in advance for what could happen after his departure. But is there a 100% guarantee that this “cunning plan” of Nazarbayev will save Kazakhstan from the local “game of thrones”?

All this can be observed as long as Nursultan Abishevich is in good health.
As soon as "His Light Image" (c) remains in the people's memory, the second part of the Marlezon ballet will begin.

Yes, it is possible that the heirs can cling to each other for power in the country.
