The Khrunichev Space Center has begun construction of the latest heavy launch vehicle of the Angara-A5 type, the launch of which is scheduled for 2021 from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. An agreement on the creation of three missiles of this class was reached between Roscosmos and the Center. Khrunicheva at the end of 2015.

Under the contract, the first Angara should be put into operation by May 2021, the construction of the second and third missiles should be completed in 2024 and 25, respectively. The flight of the rocket is scheduled from August to December 2021.

It is specified that in 2021 it is planned to launch the modernized launch vehicle - Angara-A5M. The advanced rocket will be equipped with 10% more powerful engines. In addition, the modernization includes some design changes aimed at facilitating the mass of the rocket and reducing its cost. Work on modernization began in March 2018.

The carrying capacity of heavy rockets is (depending on the class) from 3,8 to 35 tons. During development, engineers refused to use toxic heptyl for flights, and Angara uses kerosene and oxygen as fuel, which makes it the most environmentally friendly launch rocket to date.
