NASA is preparing a heavy rocket for flights into outer space

2
Recently it became known that the spacecraft from SpaceX Crew Dragon not only made a successful flight and docking with the ISS, but also managed to land successfully, which undoubtedly justified the hopes placed on it. But NASA’s ambitions, of course, are not limited to its own transportation system for sending astronauts to the International Space Station.

The agency is actively working on the Space Launch System, consisting of the rocket of the same name and Orion capsule. The device is designed for deep space travel. The enormous size of the SLS rocket will allow manned missions not only to the moon, but also to other planets, in particular to Mars.

As it became known from reports of representatives of NASA, tangible progress "has come up" in the creation of the ship and the agency even announced the schedule of the first flights. An unmanned mission will take place in 2020, and a manned flight around the moon is planned for 2023.

In addition, in June this year, the launch cancellation system will be tested, which will allow the Orion capsule to return to Earth in the event of a serious rocket failure, thereby protecting astronauts. The test will not involve the SLS. At this stage, it will be replaced by another carrier, which will lift the capsule to a height of 10 km and allow engineers to test the reliability of the cancellation system.
