EU Introduces Visas for US Citizens
Soon, citizens of the United States of America will no longer be able to visit the countries belonging to the Schengen zone as freely as they are now. The fact is that in 2021 the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will be launched.
The European Parliament finally approved the development of this system in July last year. The purpose of this decision is to improve measures to protect the security of EU countries. The system is also designed to prevent the problems associated with terrorism and the penetration of illegal migrants into the Schengen zone.
When the European system of travel information and authorization comes into force, it will provide the European Union with the opportunity to regulate the entry into the territory of the countries included in it, the citizens of those states that for this purpose do not need a visa.
A person who wishes to enter the Schengen countries will have to provide passport and personal data in electronic form before his visit to the ETIAS system. In addition, he will have to answer certain questions: does he use drugs, did he travel to zones of armed conflict, does he have a criminal record, etc.
Information provided by a potential visitor will be carefully checked with the Interpol and Europol bases.
